The Nigeria Police Force in Nasarawa State has commenced a manhunt for gunmen who kidnapped six students from an off-campus accommodation in Gudi, Akwanga Local Government Area of the state.
Students were reportedly abducted Tuesday night when individuals with guns stormed a student residence in Anguwar Ninzo, on the borders of the Gudi village.
Witnesses stated the intruders burst into the lodge and took some individuals to an unknown location, creating panic among residents and students in the neighborhood.
The attack was confirmed by the Nasarawa State Police Command, which said that the Commissioner of Police, Shettima Jauro-Mohammed, visited the place for an on-the-spot assessment after the attack.
The command said a coordinated security operation including police tactical units and other security agencies has been begun to track the abductors and ensure the safe rescue of the victims.
The police commissioner told residents that security agents were working hard to arrest those behind the abduction and bring peace to the neighborhood.
The recent tragedy adds to mounting concerns over insecurity and kidnapping activities ravaging areas of Nasarawa State and surrounding North-Central regions.
Authorities have advised locals to be alert and share any relevant information that may assist ongoing rescue efforts.
