Unknown gunmen have attacked an Army outpost along Igbeti – Igboho route in Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State and set a block inside the camp and a patrol vehicle ablaze.
Channels TV quoted a security update by the Oorelope Local Government Command today, saying the incident happened between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. yesterday, Sunday, September 13, 2026.
The Command claimed it received a distress call that armed persons had infiltrated the Operation Burst base and promptly dispatched its operatives, along with officers of other security agencies, to the area.
But the security personnel came after the assailants had departed.
According to early reports, the gunmen apparently attacked the installation in large numbers and started fire on security officers there.
Security officers later investigated the area and made efforts to locate the attackers, but no arrests were made.
The security update said no casualties were reported in the event.
But the attackers reportedly set fire to a block inside the base and a patrol van, destroying both.
The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the incident.
Armed individuals attacked the military station along Igbeti-Igboho road in the Oke-Ogun area of the state, the spokesman for the Command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka told our correspondent.
It was an army outpost on Igboho/Igbeti route. “There were no casualties but some property was damaged,” he stated.
The attack happened a day before the commencement of the new academic term in Oyo State, while the investigation into the crime has begun, and security concerns in the area linger.
