Gunmen thought to be kidnappers killed Dasola Sanusi, an officer in the Man O’War, after they ambushed people driving along the Ibadan–Ago-Iwoye Expressway, which connects Ogun and Oyo states.
The PUNCH said that a source who knows about the attack said it happened at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday when the officers were coming back from an outing.
The source, who wanted to be anonymous because of the nature of the incident, said that the cops were shot at heavily immediately after passing the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria location. Armed individuals reportedly opened fire on cars driving on the road.
The source said that even though the officers were attacked, they were able to get away from the site, though some of them were shot in the process.
After that, they were quickly taken to a hospital in Ago-Iwoye for immediate medical care.
The source claimed, “Around 6:30 p.m. on April 18, 2026, we got the sad news that our officers had been attacked while they were coming back from an outing in Ibadan.”
“While on their way to Ago-Iwoye, just after passing CRIN, their car and other passengers were suddenly and violently attacked by armed men thought to be bandits. These men began fire on all vehicles in the area without warning.
“In the face of great danger, our officers showed incredible bravery and presence of mind by getting out of the attack zone even though they had been shot.”
The source said that Sanusi was pronounced dead when he got to the hospital. Another officer named Emmanuel, who was also shot, is getting treatment right now.
The source also said that two other female policemen were hurt so badly that they had to go to the hospital.
“They went to a nearby hospital in Ago-Iwoye for urgent medical care. Sadly, when we got there, we found out that one of our own, Patriot Sanusi Dasola, had died.
“Her death is a huge loss for all of us. Patriot Emmanuel, another officer who was shot, is also getting treatment right now.
“The deceased’s body has since been buried in a cemetery in Ago-Iwoye after her family members were told,” the source said.
Ibrahim Bello, the national spokesperson for Man O’War, told our reporter over the phone that Sanusi had died and that the organization was looking into it.
He said that the guy died from the bullet wounds he got during the attack.
“We’re still looking into it.” The event took place between the states of Oyo and Ogun. Bello claimed, “The attack killed a female officer.”
Olayinka Ayanlade, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, also confirmed the event in a phone call with our reporter on Tuesday.
Ayanlade claimed that the shooters were thought to be kidnappers and that the command had sent people to the area as soon as they heard about the occurrence.
The PPRO claimed, “There was an attempted kidnapping involving some commercial cars along the said route. As soon as they got the information, command operatives in the region quickly moved to the spot, stopping the assailants from taking any passengers.
“Those who were hurt were quickly saved and taken to a hospital close by. Unfortunately, one of the women who was hurt eventually died from her injuries.
“One of the affected cars reportedly went to Awa–Ijebu, where the DPO of the relevant division in Ogun State took the passengers to the hospital right away.”
He did say, though, that he couldn’t be sure how many people were hurt because the injured were brought to Ogun State.
Ayanlade ended by saying, “However, I may not be able to confirm details about any casualties in Ogun State at this time, as I do not yet have a full brief of the incident in that area.”
