The Nigeria Police Force has announced a big operational success, freeing 90 kidnaped persons from various states in a joint 24-hour operation.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, in a statement said the operations were carried out between August 18 and 20, 2026.
The largest single rescue was in Kaduna State where police investigators rescued 75 abducted persons near Polwaya Village.
The victims were carried away from commercial buses in Birnin Gwari area and hidden in a mountainous jungle, however the abductors escaped when the security personnel arrived, leaving all the captives unhurt . The victims were taken to the Area Command for debrief.
Thirteen kidnaped passengers have been rescued by joint tactical teams in a nite operation at the Amla-Cho Forest in Benue State.
The victims were abducted on August 14 while on their way from Enugu to Abuja on the Otukpo–Adoka Road.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Orchia Peter Aondongu, revealed that the rescue was made at about 2:00 am on August 20 after five days of intense search operations.
All 13 hostages were freed without injury, but one alleged kidnapper was earlier killed in a gunfight.
Police operatives and vigilantes have rescued two kidnaped victims during bush-combing operations in Sunami Forest, Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.
The victims were released by their captors without any ransom and one of the injured victims was treated by doctors and discharged to his family .
The Benue State Commissioner of police, CP Cletus C.N. Nwadiogbu, praised the operatives for their bravery and resilience and assured the community that efforts are being strengthened to track down the fleeing culprits.
He also called on transport companies to keep proper passenger manifests so that in case of an emergency the passengers may be identified and rescued.
