The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) stopped a vehicle that was dangerously overloaded on the Bauchi–Kari highway. This has raised new worries about risky transportation practices on Nigerian roadways.
Osondu Ohaeri, the Corps Public Education Officer, said on Monday that the RS12.12 Darazo Unit Command stopped the car while on a normal patrol.
The FRSC said that the automobile was carrying way too much stuff, and passengers were spotted sitting on top of piles of things, which made them entirely exposed and at risk of injury in an accident.
“This is a serious breach of safety rules. The statement claimed, “Passengers were sitting on top of loaded goods, which put them at risk of death in the event of a crash, sudden braking, or loss of control.”
The corps said that overloading is still one of the most dangerous things people do on highways because it makes vehicles less stable and makes crashes more likely.
“Overloading is more than just a traffic violation; it’s a choice that could kill you.” “It makes the car less stable, makes it take longer to stop, and puts both passengers and other road users in serious danger,” Ohaeri added.
The FRSC told drivers and transport companies to always follow safety rules and never treat people like merchandise.
The corps advised, “No journey is worth your life,” and asked road users to be more responsible.
The agency said again that it would keep enforcing traffic laws and lowering the number of accidents on the road by continuing to patrol and run public awareness initiatives.
