During the ongoing governorship and House of Assembly elections, there was violence in certain regions of Ogun State as thugs suspected of being political thugs infiltrated polling stations and stole ballot boxes.

In addition to other areas of the state, the incidents were reported in Sagamu, Iperu, and Abeokuta.

When our correspondent visited polling unit 5 at AUD secondary school in Sagamu, he discovered that the thugs had destroyed a ballot box.

One of the voters, Tajudeen Adeoye, reported that thugs suspected of being loyal to a political party broke into the polling place and stole the ballot box.

However, he stated that there was resistance from police and other security personnel at the polling location. “Some boys attempted to steal the ballot box, but the police and other security agencies foiled their plan,” he said.

Adamu Garba of the APC asserts there is no violence in Lagos.

In Lagos, criminals disrupt voting near military cantonments.

At Iperu-Remo, the hometown of Governor Dapo Abiodun, there were gunshots when two ballot boxes were stolen from Polling Unit 05, Ward 03 in the Ayegbami neighborhood by individuals suspected of being political thugs.

The criminals rode their motorcycles into the polling place and began firing into the air in an attempt to scare away voters.

However, they were able to escape with one of the ballot boxes before security personnel, particularly policemen on election duty at a nearby road intersection, could engage in a gun battle at the scene, while the Assistant Polling Officer for the unit, Alalade Babatunde, was assaulted.

However, the event resulted in chaos, forcing many voters to flee for cover to avoid being struck by stray bullets.

Frank Mba, the Commissioner of Police, admitted that violence existed in certain regions of the state.

“I actually admitted that we have a few isolated incidents of violence, but we were able to nip most of them in the bud before they grew into issues that could have caused major problems for law enforcement and others.

“Where certain people attempt to break the law, that’s how criminals behave everywhere,” Mba said while speaking with newsmen. “Your job is to continually reinforce the security conduct.”
