Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted two consignments of synthetic cannabis popularly known as Colorado or Colos on the streets concealed in consolidated cargoes coming from the United Kingdom, while two other consignments of the dangerous substance hidden in music speakers were recovered from two motor parks in Lagos where at least seven suspects linked to the seized cargoes have been arrested.
NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, confirmed this in a statement yesterday.
NDLEA operatives on Tuesday intercepted a consignment to the United Kingdom at the import shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja Lagos where 27 parcels of colos weighing 32.20kg were concealed, Babafemi said. A real estate agent Abideen Jide Salami, who showed up with a secret collection code relayed from his UK based brother to collect a large luggage containing the illicit substance was arrested on Wednesday September 9, 2026.
The statement said a follow-up operation from a second UK consignment led officers to the intended receiver of a further batch of Colorado measuring 12.25kg.
The suspect, Nurudeen Abiodun Kadiri, 44, claims the shipment was sent to him by his brother in United Kingdom.
“NDLEA operatives of the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) have intercepted a music speaker loaded with three packs of Colorado at a motor park in Maza Maza, Lagos heading for Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire and from there to Liberia. A tour agency, Ifeanyi Obed Augustine, 41, and the owner of the consignment, Obasi Ugochuckwu, 46, were also nabbed in a quick sting operation at a neighbouring cafe. “In another operation at Iddo park, a suspect Ifeanyi Nwokolo Henry was arrested on Friday 11th September while trying to send 2.1kg of Colorado to Kano,” the statement stated.
In two separate arrests at Ughelli and Asaba in Delta State, a cache of ampoules of pentazocine injection, codeine syrup, tramadol, diazepam, flunitrazepam (hypnox) and MDMA (Molly) were recovered, some of which were hidden inside music speakers. Two suspects: Emeka Oji and Chukwuebuka Anedi were arrested.
In Kano, Babafemi said NDLEA raid on Sabon Gari led to the arrest of a 20-year-old suspect Saidu Adamu with staggering 785,000 capsules of Pregabalin weighing 669.425kg, while a stop-and-search operation along Zaria-Kano-Hadejia road netted 1,700 tablets of diazepam concealed inside loaves of bread seized from one Habibu Sabitu, 28.
Another investigation led to the arrest of 51-year-old Chinedu Uzor when he was caught with 157,100 capsules of tramadol at Katako market, Jos, Plateau State.
