The presidential candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress for the 2027 election, Peter Obi, has said that the government is hindering his efforts and targeting opposition people, saying he may not be alive to win the elections. Demographic
Today, “With Chude” host Chude Jideonwo shared the comments on X.
When asked whether there was a potential that he may not be a contender in 2027, Obi answered, “Not even a candidate. I might not even be here. I tell you.
“This government is frustrating everything I do for a living. Deliberately. All. So even there is a chance, if they have the chance I will not be alive.”
He however underlined that he was not making outright allegations but detailed regular instances of hindrance, report The PUNCH.
‘This is not a condemnation. I know. I get frustrated every day. Because you do things you thought would be normal — it is not normal anymore.
They won’t come out and say, ‘Oh, we’re doing this,’” Obi said. “But you can see their hand in just about anything.
When asked if the administration was attacking him personally, the former governor of Anambra State stated the alleged treatment was meted out to members of the opposition.
“They are personally attacking everyone who is against them. I’m being personally attacked. All of that. No indeed, even to supply me with the required items to which I ought to have been entitled,” he said.
Obi remembered a case at the airport where, he said, officials locked his car even though other cars were parked in the same location. Automobiles+Vehicles
“I had a recent case at the airport, where the people that work at the airport came and locked my car. And I answered, ‘It’s myself. The person in charge said he doesn’t care.
“But I said, ‘Look at other people’s cars. And you could see them talking to each other, like, ‘Who is this one?’
He also said others now refused to be openly associated with him for fear of becoming targeted.
“And I see people I know at the airport, they will not speak to me because they are afraid that if they speak to me…
The former Labour Party presidential candidate also said that some supporters had dissuaded him from attending family functions.
“And I’ve got people sending me invitations and say ‘My son, my daughter is wedding, but please don’t come,’” he remarked.
Obi did not give any evidence to back up his assertions at the interview and the federal government had not responded to his claims as at the time of reporting this story.
