The Federal Workers Forum (FWF) has appealed to the Federal Government to adopt a new national minimum wage of N300,000, owing to the rising cost of living and the worsening economic hardship being experienced by workers.
The demand was contained in a statement signed by the Forum’s National Coordinator, Andrew Emelieze, who urged the government to quickly settle outstanding salary-related responsibilities owed to federal workers in Abuja.
The Forum said the Federal Government must promptly pay the unpaid two months wage award owing workers since June 2024, as well as the arrears of the 40 per cent unique allowance.
The group also demanded for complete implementation of the national minimum wage of ₦70,000 including payment of any outstanding salary arrears arising from its implementation.
Workers said improving the welfare of employees is key to increasing productivity and mitigating the effects of inflation and the high cost of living.
The Forum called on the Federal Government to engage labour leaders constructively and resolve pending concerns without delay, noting that swift action would assist to restore workers’ confidence and promote industrial harmony.
