The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has commended the organisers of the 8th Silent Heroes Awards Abuja 2026 for honouring her with the Silent Hero in Management Award, describing the recognition as a tribute to the resilience, dedication and professionalism of journalists.
Comrade Ike, speaking at the presentation of the award, said it was humbling and encouraging and will further push her to continue to serve the journalistic profession and society with integrity and commitment.
I accept this Silent Hero in Management Award with sincere thanks, humility and a sense of duty.
“I am really grateful to the Silent Heroes Awards organisers for deeming me worthy of this award. I see this distinction not only as a personal success but as a compliment to every journalist, media professional and union member who works tirelessly behind the scenes to enhance our profession and to advance the ideas of responsible journalism.”
The NUJ FCT Chairman stated that leadership is founded on teamwork, sacrifice and service, adding that the successes of the Council were made possible by the collaborative efforts of members, executive officers, chapel leaders, veterans of the profession and strategic partners.
She said the prize will revive her motivation to work more for the welfare of journalists and the promotion of ethical journalism.
As journalists, we are the sentinels of truth, the stewards of democracy and the champions of accountability. In a time when misinformation, insecurity and other societal concerns continue to test our society, our profession must continue to be led by ethics, professionalism, justice and public interest.
Comrade Ike reiterated her commitment to the improvement of the welfare of journalists, capacity building, ethical journalism, unity within the NUJ and the creation of possibilities that will promote the professional and economic well-being of members.
She dedicated the Award to all the journalists in Nigeria who continue to serve with courage and professionalism despite many hardships and thanked her family, mentors, colleagues and all who have contributed to her leadership journey.
“This recognition is not the end of the journey. It is actually renewed motivation to contribute even more to journalism, nation-building and humanity.”
Comrade Ike further thanked the organisers of the Silent Heroes Awards for discovering persons whose efforts are frequently taken for granted, saying the project is a laudable platform that rewards selfless service and influential leadership.
