Veteran Nollywood actress, Patience Ozokwor, has expressed her delight in the “villainous” roles she performs in films, saying they are meant to reflect and expose society truths, not define her identity.
The 67-year-old actress was speaking during a recent video chat and addressed the long-standing public beliefs that often blur the line between her on-screen performances and her real-life identity, Saturday PUNCH writes.
Ozokwo, who is famous for her ‘Mama G’ character, stated that many people think she is evil in real life because of the tough characters she plays in films.
She added that her acts are intentional and aim to draw attention to society injustices, especially those that are typically disregarded or normalised.
“I feel strong enough to show the evil in society. You know, certain things happen. Nobody likes to reveal them. “I am stripping them,” she said.
The actress has maintained that her performances as stern moms, villainous mothers-in-law and other hard-nosed characters are strictly professional roles and not reflective of her personal life.
“I’m not like that, but I do show it. “I’m very proud of myself and mama G lovers are proud of me,” she continued.
Ozokwo said acting is a craft based on storytelling and moral reflection, and that she is happy that most of her followers grasp the message behind her performances.
Over the years, she has become one of Nollywood’s most famous faces, with a career distinguished by compelling representations of complicated and frequently controversial characters.
