Benue State Commissioner for Information, Solomon Iorpev, says presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, is inviting difficulty on himself from the state government.
In his comment on the development, Iorpev stated, “This is not the first time Obi was ignoring protocol by not officially informing the state administration of his travel to the state, considering his standing. “I think Obi’s response today to the blocking of him by some youngsters is out of place. ”
The commissioner said, “Obi is a high profile person and a former governor and the host state should provide him security.
“A former governor of a state who is a high-profile person is coming into the state, he should have written a letter to the state government,” he said.
“We are expected to keep him safe and protect him, but in a situation where there was no letter written we couldn’t guarantee his safety.
“This isn’t the first time he’s done this. He’s only searching for issues with us. “We are a peace-loving, hospitable people.
The commissioner, who said he didn’t know those behind the attack on Obi, however revealed that Obi’s visit was coincided with the meeting of youths from the 23 local government areas of the state.
“So, if they were coming from Tarka, Gboko, Buruku, Ushongo, Konshisha or Vandeikya at the same time as his visit and blocked the road, it is unfortunate. “I don’t know the young people who did that, the commissioner said.
