In a series of intelligence-led operations around the state in June 2026, the Lagos State Police Command detained 36 people and recovered about 8,000 pieces of military camouflage uniforms, guns, suspected illicit narcotics and other exhibits.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, yesterday at the command’s headquarters, Ikeja, said the achievements were recorded in sustained efforts to fight armed robbery, cultism, vandalism, illegal possession of firearms, impersonation and other criminal activities.
He said 14 firearms, four live cartridges, a MAN Diesel truck, 51 mobile phones, two vehicle engine control units (oecus) popularly called brain boxes, an operational motorbike, vandalised electric cables and 80 cartons of substances suspected to be illicit drugs were recovered by operatives, reports Daily Trust.
One of the significant victories recorded by the command, he said, was the interception of unregistered MAN Diesel vehicle filled with 47 sacks holding around 8,000 pieces of military camouflage clothing reportedly being carried to the eastern portion of the nation.
“Three suspects arrested in connection with the seizure have been identified as Chinedu David, Ezeagwu Chukwuma and Ifeanyi Ogbeanyi. The operation also resulted in the recovery of 80 cartons of goods suspected to be illicit drugs”, he said
CP Fatai equally disclosed that preliminary investigation showed that the truck was being used to convey the military camouflage uniforms to the eastern region adding that efforts were ongoing to identify the source, ownership, intended recipients and other persons connected with the consignment.
“The command also recorded major success in the fight against violent crime with the arrest of a suspect linked to a notorious “one-chance” robbery syndicate. Detectives found 51 cell phones, suspected to have been stolen from victims during prior operations by the group.
In a related operation, police arrested two suspected cable vandals who were allegedly caught vandalising electrical installations on the Third Mainland Bridge. Three suspects were arrested in an investigation in Ayetoro-Ijanikin where two double-barrel guns and six locally-made single-barrel firearms were recovered.
Operatives also apprehended suspects for unlawful possession of firearms at several sites across the state and recovered pistols, live cartridges and other weapons suspected to have been utilised for criminal activity.
The Command also detained suspected cultists linked to the Eiye and Alora confraternities recovering rifles and ammunitions during the operations.
“In the area of immigration enforcement, the command rescued 38 foreign nationals from possible mob action in Epe. So far, investigations have established that 20 of the persons were unlawful entrants into Nigeria while 18 had genuine ECOWAS travel cards. “The matter has since been referred to the Nigerian Immigration Service and relevant Diplomatic Missions for the appropriate action,” he said.
CP Fatai said the results gained during the month showed the efficiency of intelligence-driven policing and re-affirmed the command’s commitment to defending lives and property across Lagos State.
