Residents of Igboho in Oyo State have erupted into wild jubilation following the alleged release of a kidnapped family, including a pregnant lady, her children and a sibling, after a two-hour ultimatum issued by Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho.
A social media video showed enormous throngs of residents singing and dancing and welcoming the victims’ return.
This comes after Igboho had earlier issued a harsh warning to suspected Fulani community leaders in the area over increasing incidences of kidnaping and insecurity, Sunday PUNCH reports.
In the prior viral video, Igboho was seen meeting community representatives and traditional elders, where he expressed his indignation over the reported deaths and abductions in the area.
He said some of the Fulani people had been abducting people in the community and cited the case of a pregnant woman and the ransom discussions that he said had turned tragic.
“You killed the person who brought the ransom, you only spared one person,” he remarked, stressing that similar instances should not be repeated.
Igboho also issued a two-hour ultimatum for the release of other abducted victims, saying he has exercised restraint following pleas from traditional authorities.
My name is Sunday Igboho. I am calm, for my fathers told me to be calm with you. Let this be the last time such a thing happens,” he said.
He also threatened serious action, including threats to raid suspected hideouts linked to the kidnappings, if they failed to comply.
Footage from the town following the ultimatum depicted ecstatic neighbours celebrating what was described as the release of the abducted family, however the circumstances of their freedom were unclear at the time of reporting this article.
