President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has approved the appointment of Major General Adeyinka A. FAMADEWA(Rtd) as Special Adviser on Homeland Security in recognition of his excellent record of service, strategic insight and significant contributions to Nigeria’s national security architecture.
The appointment, contained in a circular signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, CON, and issued by the Permanent Secretary General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, mni, is a demonstration of the commitment of the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to enhance the coordination of internal security, increase intelligence-led operations and deepen inter-agency cooperation to combat emerging security threats across the nation.
Major General FAMADEWA (Rtd) is a highly decorated retired General with over three decades of distinguished military and intelligence service covering national security policy, intelligence fusion, counter-terrorism operations and international security diplomacy. His career is a rare mix of operational excellence, strategic foresight and institutional leadership in the defence of Nigeria’s territorial integrity and national interest.
Between 2015 and 2021, he was Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser in the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), where he was instrumental in developing Nigeria’s new intelligence coordination architecture. He led the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre (IFC) at ONSA, which created an integrated multi-agency intelligence platform that merged the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force and the Armed Forces to improve national threat assessment and strategic response coordination.
Major General Famadewa(Rtd) after his retirement from active military service was appointed Senior Research Fellow, Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja where he continued to deliver strategic thought leadership on police, civil-security cooperation and national security reform. He has a critically appreciated monograph titled “Policing and National Security in Nigeria” that provides practical foundations for improved civil-security coordination.
President Tinubu was optimistic that the appointment of Major General Fadewa (Rtd) would further boost the administration’s efforts towards achieving a safer, more secure Nigeria through improved coordination of homeland security initiatives, intelligence integration and proactive risk management.
He also charged him to apply his wealth of expertise, professionalism and strategic acumen in the advancement of national security objectives and support for the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
