“The time has come to rescue Nigeria. We need to come together as citizens and political leaders to rebuild our country and restore the confidence of our people in governance,” Peter Obi said.
Obi talked on the current status of the nation, leadership and the need for accountable governance at the NDC Convention.
The former presidential candidate said that Nigeria is bedeviled with significant economic and social problems such as insecurity, unemployment, inflation and rising poverty, adding that urgent action must be taken to reverse the trend.
He said the country’s bountiful people and natural resources could only be harnessed via responsible leadership, transparency and policies geared towards the welfare of inhabitants.
Obi said the time to save Nigeria was now, asking Nigerians not to lose hope in the face of the country’s travails.
He called for unity, competence and good administration, saying that growth can only take place in a nation when leaders put service above self-interest.
Obi also urged the youth to be active in the democratic process, adding that the future of the country mostly depended on citizen involvement and accountability.
The comments underscore his sustained push for reforms in governance and economic management after the 2023 general elections, political observers say.
Political stakeholders, civic societies and participants from many sectors attended the NDC Convention where they discussed topics of democracy, national development and leadership in Nigeria.
