The Chairman of Kuje Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, Samuel Danjuma Shekwolo, has asked citizens hostile to the All Progressives Congress, APC, to leave the area council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Shekwolo said this in a viral video on social media where he declared he will not allow any opposition to the APC or President Bola Tinubu’s re-election attempt in the council, Daily Trust reports.
The chairman said that the people should be behind the ruling party in view of what he referred to as development initiatives conducted in Kuje by the Tinubu led administration and the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
His viewpoint, he claimed, was non-negotiable and he vowed to utilise his authority to fight efforts by people to work against the APC in the 2027 elections.
“It is either you are for the APC or you vacate the area council,” he stated in his area council. “I’m not arguing about this at all,” Shekwolo remarked.
The council chairman asked why would the people of Kuje vote against the APC, considering the interventions of Tinubu and Wike.
You know what? I can’t have the Minister and the President doing what they are doing, and then the day of the election, you will now declare you want to match me. “I won’t agree,” he said.
“It’s you are either with us or you are against us,” Shekwolo remarked.
His remarks come as political parties strengthen mobilisation and grassroots campaigns in the run-up to the 2027 national elections.
Reacting, a Facebook user, Morohunkeji Adegbite, asked, “You mean there should not be an opposition party in democracy?
“This is a direct threat to lives,” commented another Facebook user, Nijim Bisi. I hope DSS are seeing them now o.”
Banebo Ernest wrote, now the question is where our DSS? is.
In his reaction Ishaku Suleiman commented, “He is my Neighbour and I hold him very high as young vibrant politician that God has favoured, but to hear such statements is disappointing. He is a cool compassionate Man yet I know he is in the learning process.
“They are gradually preparing the masses,” claimed Njoku Beck Uchenna. “The international community should be documenting this so that the aggressor doesn’t look like the oppressed.”
