The Oke-Ogun Council of Elders (OCE) has assigned lawmakers to run nonviolent campaigns ahead of the general elections in 2027.
According to Daily Trust, the Yoruba elders also reiterated their dedication to the Southwest region’s development, security, education, and political advancement.
Following a meeting at its chairman Otunba Bamidele Dada’s home in Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State, the Council announced this in a communiqué released today.
Dada, the President of OCE, was previously the Minister of State for Water Resources and Agriculture.
The elders discussed a number of topics pertaining to Oyo State and Oke-Ogun. Security, the economy, education, politics, and social issues were some of these concerns.
Regarding security, the elders praised Mr. Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Igboho, Primate Samson Ojoawo, retired Brigadier General Kunle Togun, and others “for their various efforts to ensure that the region is safe and secure for law-abiding citizens.”
The Oke-Ogun elders expressed gratitude to the federal and Oyo State governments, as well as security agencies, for the successful rescue of the recent Oriire local government abductees. They also expressed hope that the governments, security agencies, and other stakeholders will make sure that this doesn’t happen again. The OCE expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu’s federal government for the Federal University in Okeho, Kajola local government area of Oke-Ogun, and begged that necessary finances be made available to the institution’s administrators so that it can run smoothly. Executive Branch
In addition to reiterating the Oke-Ogun people’s long-standing goal of producing a governor for Oyo State, it called on those holding public office to make sure that the region’s best interests are always served. It also stated that the goal would be pursued through communication, constructive engagement, and democratic processes.
As they begin their political campaigns leading up to the 2027 elections, the Council urged politicians to make sure that peace is upheld.
The group also decided to interact with Oke-Ogun political candidates who have obtained tickets to run in upcoming elections.
As they start to seek the people’s mandate, the elders said that the candidates would be expected to clearly articulate their programs and commitments to the development of Oke-Ogun.
It urged consistent investment in human resources, education, and skill development, especially to provide opportunities for the region’s youth.
It also urged all Oke-Ogun sons and daughters to come together and cooperate for the betterment of the area, irrespective of their social standing, political affiliation, or religious beliefs.
We created an Oke-Ogun Development Blueprint (2025–2035) to accomplish this goal. The statement stated, “It’s to provide a roadmap for an accelerated development in all ramifications.” The official launch of the plan is scheduled for the near future.
With a focus on unity, security, education, good governance, political representation, and sustainable development, the Council pledged to keep leading and advocating on matters pertaining to Oke-Ogun.
Barrister Adebayo Lawal, who just became the Acting Governor of Oyo State, received congratulations from the council. The Oke-Ogun elders took advantage of the occasion to praise Governor Oluwaseyi Makinde for his trust in his deputy and for the smooth transition of power to him. Government
The council prayed for Chief Lawal’s prosperity as he leads the state’s operations as acting governor while wishing Governor Makinde a pleasant vacation.
Prominent Oke-Ogun sons and daughters, local authorities, political figures, and other notable individuals from throughout the area attended the gathering.
Chief Iyiola Oladokun, a former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Professor Layi Egunjobi, Sir Oladoja Oladele, Comrade Remi Adegbola, Professor L. Ojedapo, Deputy Vise Chancellor, Federal University, Okeho (FUNATO), Mr. Oluwole Oladokun, and Honourable Lanre Agoro were among these individuals.
Mr. Fasola Olajide, Dr. Babatunde, Alhaji Amusa Adebisi, Hon. Muda Ganiyu, Pastor Favour Adewoyin, Mr. Joel Adebisi Omo Ode, Dr. Oyedepo, Mr. Femi Akano, Mr. David Aremu, Mr. Abioye Afolabi, and Mr. Sola Ailako were among the other attendees.
The members of the communiqué committee are Mr. Sola Ailako, Prince Remi Adegbola, and Comrade Jare Ajayi.
