The ruling All Progressives Congress formally flagged off President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign on Thursday by submitting his nomination and expression of interest forms to the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, heading a high-powered team of party leaders, submitted the forms on behalf of the president, hailing Tinubu as a fearless leader whose reforms have repositioned Nigeria’s economy.
Shettima said Tinubu has shown the political will and leadership capacity to lead the country through the economic challenges and move it onto the path of recovery.
“He has shown his mettle and has shown the world that his determination to pull the nation out of the woods remains steadfast as he seeks to lead us for another four years through thick and thin,” added the vice president.
He said the Renewed Hope Agenda of the administration had restored the confidence of investors, increased the foreign reserves and stabilised important sectors of the economy.
The Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum and Governor of Hope Uzodimma State, claimed that governors elected on the APC platform have already approved Tinubu’s second term aspiration.
Uzodimma said 31 APC governors agreed at a previous political gathering to support the President’s continuity plan.
“We are one in our support for Mr President to continue the good work he is doing for Nigeria,” he said, adding that governors across the country would rally support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.
The APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Nentawe Yilwatda, said the party’s National Executive Committee, has overwhelmingly approved Tinubu for re-election, making any vetting procedure unnecessary.
He said the endorsement mirrored the trust of the party leadership in the president’s performance and reform objectives.
Yilwatda cited important infrastructure projects such as the Lagos-Kano-Maradi railway, the Badagry-Sokoto expressway and the AKK gas pipeline as evidence of the development drive of the administration.
He also lauded improvements in the power industry that enable states to produce and distribute electricity by themselves.
Tajudeen Abbas, the speaker of the House of Representatives, said Mr Tinubu’s performance in office had been “phenomenal”. He said that the president had showed courage and decisiveness from the outset of his government.
Abbas said Tinubu faced age-old national problems head-on rather than deferring difficult economic decisions.
The nomination forms’ submission was the official kick-off of Tinubu’s second-term campaign, with the APC projecting party unity, continuity and economic reforms as major cornerstones of its 2027 strategy.
