In the Olegabulu community in the Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, gunmen killed five people, including a traditional ruler, his wife, son, and two other persons.
The PUNCH says that the attack happened last night when the attackers broke into the community at 8 p.m.
A local source told our reporter that four people on two motorcycles went to the home of the traditional ruler and shot him and two members of his family.
The source, who didn’t want to be named, claimed, “The attackers weren’t Fulani because when they got off their motorcycles, they spoke to people around them in our dialect.”
“So, no one thought they were adversaries, but as soon as they entered the house of the traditional king and started shooting, everyone ran for cover.
“The attackers worked for approximately 20 minutes. They attacked the home of the traditional leader and then went to the next house, where they slaughtered two people.
“Another person was hurt before they ran away.”
Melvin Ejeh, the Chairman of the Local Government Area, stated in a phone conversation on Friday that five persons died and one person was hurt. He also added that police officers had been to the location.
“It did happen, that’s true. Ejeh added, “Five people died and one person was hurt in the attack.”
When asked, DSP Udeme Edet, the state Police Public Relations Officer, stated she had not yet received the complaint.
Edet added, “I haven’t gotten the report yet, but I’m still waiting for it.”
