The National Youth Service Corps and the Nigerian Police Force have promised to work together even more to make the security of Corps Members across the country even better.
Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, the Director General of NYSC, said this when he visited Mr. Olatunji Disu, the Inspector General of Police, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. Caroline Embu, the NYSC Spokesperson, said this in a statement.
General Nafiu praised Disu on his appointment and the recent formation of his crack team.
The Director General also said that the Police have been very helpful in making NYSC activities and programs successful since they started.
Nafiu asked the police to make sure that the Corps Members and NYSC officials were as safe as possible both inside and outside the Orientation Camps.
He also asked for the safety of the Corps Members and their belongings, such as the Corps Lodges, as the country gets ready for the 2027 general elections.
The Director General went on to say that the NYSC Act says that members of the Armed Forces and paramilitary agencies do not have to do National Service. He would like to work with the Management of the Police Academy so that the NYSC can issue certificates of exemption to graduates of the school, as is required by law.
The IGP replied in his statement that the Police would keep the Scheme safe. He also claimed that the Police had the addresses of all the Corps Lodges and may take action if needed.
He added that the granting of exemption certificates for graduates of the Nigeria Police Academy was a good thing, and he promised the DG that the Police would work more closely with the NYSC.
