Alleged terrorists raided Madagali, the hometown of Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, and took six family members hostage early yesterday morning.
The PUNCH said the attack happened in Gare Village, which is in the Pallam District of the Madagali Local Government Area of the state.
SP Suleiman Nguroje, the spokesman for the Adamawa State Police Command, confirmed the event in a statement released yesterday. He added that security forces had begun a joint search-and-rescue effort to free the victims who had been kidnapped.
“The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed that suspected terrorists attacked Gare Village in the Pallam District of the Madagali Local Government Area early this morning. They took six family members and stole livestock,” the statement said.
Nguroje stated that the command has quickly sent more people and operational equipment to the area, working with other security agencies.
He said, “When the report came in, the Command immediately stepped up cooperation and sent more people and operational assets to the affected area and nearby communities as part of a joint operation involving the Nigeria Police Force, Troops of 144 Battalion, and the Civilian Joint Task Force.”
The police spokesperson said that Dankombo Morris, the Commissioner of Police for the Adamawa State Command, has directed ongoing operations to make sure the victims are safely rescued and that there are no more attacks.
Nguroje went on to say, “The Commissioner of Police has ordered ongoing search-and-rescue operations, increased patrols, and more security presence in Madagali and other border communities to make sure the victims are safely rescued and returned and to stop any more threats.”
He said that security agencies were still dedicated to protecting lives and property all around the state.
He stated, “The command, working with the Nigerian Army and other sister security agencies, is fully committed to protecting lives and property across the State.” He also noted that “further updates will be communicated.”
Governor Fintiri started a tour of the state’s 21 local government units on Tuesday to look at the security situation and other problems that locals are facing.
There have been a lot of violent events in Adamawa State in the past several weeks. Recently, Hong Local Government Area was also assaulted. Twelve people died and several homes were destroyed.
A communal disturbance between the Bachama and Chobo communities in the Lamurde Local Government Area took the lives of more than 20 people earlier this year.
