The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, University of Benin chapter has terminated its indefinite strike and urged members to resume full academic activity immediately.
The suspension was revealed in a statement signed by Branch Chairman Enaruna Edosa and Secretary L.O. Aimiyekagbon after a congress resolution and confirmation by the union’s National Executive Council.
The judgement came after the University Administration paid personnel emoluments for September 2026 in full.
The union had earlier announced a total and indefinite withdrawal of services from October 5, 2026, over the underpayment of September remuneration by the Federal Government.
“This directive is in response to the decision of Congress to suspend the action of withdrawal of services… having obtained the approval of its National Leadership (ASUU NEC). “The suspension was a consequence of the full payment of the emoluments of September 2026 by the University Administration,” the statement said.
All academic activities including undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, supervision, seminars and statutory meetings are to be resumed with immediate effect by academic personnel.
Branch leadership commended members for their solidarity during the short industrial action.
The development is likely to bring back normal academic activities at the University of Benin after the brief disruption.
