Yesterday Coronation Art Gallery opened The Value of Belief – Collectors, Conviction and the Making of Cultural Futures, greeting visitors to an evening that marked the start of its most ambitious exhibition program yet.
The opening at Coronation Plaza, Victoria Island, Lagos, was graced by the gathering of senior executives throughout the Group, business leaders, collectors, artists and journalists and was attended by Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, Chairman of Coronation Group and members of the board, The Nation reported.
The show features works from the private collections of three prominent Nigerian collector-patrons, Kayode Adegbola, Kola Aina and Seyi Ajibola whose methodical and conviction-led collecting over the decades has contributed to form the landscape of modern Nigerian art.
Both have invested not just in the works they buy but in the artists, communities and cultural infrastructure that enable African creativity to thrive.
They collect in painting, sculpture and mixed media, embodying a long view of worth that the exhibition casts as a cultural and an investment argument.
The Value of Belief directly associates the conviction called for by the serious collector with the conviction at the heart of sound, long-term investment, positioning patronage and financial stewardship not as separate instincts but as expressions of the same deeply held belief in human potential.
