Content producer, Ademola Abiodun better known as DJ Chicken was yesterday brought before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ogba, Lagos, over claims of threatening the life of Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu. Executive Branch;
DJ Chicken was arraigned before Magistrate M.F. Onamusi on a three-count charge bordering on alleged threat to kill, conduct likely to cause breach of the peace and offences contrary to the Cybercrime Act.
The prosecution claimed the accusations were based on a video the content creator released on his social media sites last week, in which he allegedly threatened Seyi Tinubu while talking on the 2027 presidential election.
The prosecution told the court that the video contained words which were construed as threat to kill Seyi Tinubu, contrary to the provisions of the Criminal Law of Lagos State and the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.
The DJ Chicken later removed the remarks in a subsequent video, after popular backlash to the video, saying they were intended as a prank to draw public attention.
He maintained that he meant no harm to Seyi Tinubu and that the comments were part of content development.
The state nonetheless pursued criminal proceedings against him after the retraction.
The first count charged the defendant with posting a video that carried a threat to kill Seyi Tinubu on his social media accounts, an act punishable under Section 232 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
It is alleged in the 2nd count that the accused transmitted a grossly offensive and intimidating message using a computer network in contravention of Section 24 of the Cybercrime Act, 2015.
The third charge was that he did an act likely to cause a breach of the peace and meant to frighten or embarrass Seyi Tinubu, pursuant to Section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
DJ Chicken pleaded not guilty to all three counts.
Magistrate M.F. Onamusi granted him bail to the tune of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
The court said one of the sureties must be a civil servant and the other a known community leader who must have landed property in Lagos State.
Both sureties must also present evidence of three years’ tax clearance, Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) identification, National Identification Number (NIN) and current utility bills.
In addition, one of the sureties must be a blood relative of the defendant.
The magistrate ordered that DJ Chicken be held at Kirikiri Correctional Centre until his bail conditions are met.
The case was adjourned until 3rd of August 2026 for further proceedings.
