Nigerian media celebrity and actor, Denrele Edun, has described why he symbolically ‘married’ himself while celebrating his 45th birthday.
The artist, Adenrele Oluwafemi Edun, announced the unique union on June 13 by sharing a video on social media that rapidly elicited numerous reactions online.
Denrele, who spoke about the self-marriage in an Instagram story he shared on Tuesday, said the act was a celebration of his journey through years of high and low.
“On my 45th birthday I decided to honour the one person who has been with me through every phase of my life.
Till death do us part. So I married me. “After 45 years of chaos, glitter, survival, reinvention, controversy, resilience, heartbreak and triumph, I’m the greatest love story I’ve ever known,” he added.
He stated that the symbolic union was an embrace of every version of himself that had contributed to his progress.
I am the bride. I am the groom. And I am marrying every part of me that fought to get here. “Today I marry the only person who never left me: MYSELF!” he announced.
He is known for his colourful manner and unique nature and signed off his message as ‘The Bride. Bridegroom The Ever After Happily.”
His statement generated a massive response online, with many fans and followers praising the message of self-acceptance, perseverance and personal progress as he commemorated the milestone birthday.
