Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah has promised a plot of land in Enugu for every player of Rangers International F.C and monetary incentive of ₦100 million for the team for winning the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title.
Mbah also announced the sum of ₦50 million for the management, and extra plots of land for the general manager, secretary, coach and assistant coach of the team.
The governor, who announced this on his X handle yesterday after meeting with the squad in Enugu, said the team deserved the prize.
What a season. What a team. Again they went home with the trophy in style.
As a show of appreciation, I announced a piece of land in Enugu for each player, financial award of N100 million for the squad, N50 million for the management and further plots of land for the general manager, secretary, coach and assistant coach. “They deserved it. Every last bit of it.”
“This is what Enugu pride looks like. This is what faith in our own looks like. And today I am quite happy,” Mbah said.
Rangers International F. C. sealed their ninth NPFL title following a 2-1 win over Ikorodu City F.C. on Sunday in the 2025/2026 season.
The win at Mobolaji Johnson Arena saw them equal Enyimba F.C. as the most successful teams in NPFL history.
The victory concluded off one of the most dramatic title chases on the final day in recent NPFL history with the Flying Antelopes eventually finishing ahead of Rivers United who beat Katsina United 3-0 but missed out on the title race.
Shooting Stars S.C. finished third and will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup. Rangers and Rivers United will represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League next season.
It was another breakthrough for the Coal City club as the Rangers triumphed to further entrench their status among the Nigerian top elite.
The club’s win drew plaudits from President Bola Tinubu.
In his message, Tinubu recalled the club’s heyday in the 1970s and 1980s when they were one of the most feared teams in Africa, winning several domestic league and FA Cup titles, reaching the finals of the African Cup of Champions Clubs in 1975 and winning the African Cup Winners’ Cup in 1977, thus securing their place in the history books of the continent.
“Rangers, which is one of the oldest clubs in Nigeria, has produced some of the best football players in the country who have made the country proud on the world stage. “I am proud of their achievement,” the president said in a statement quoted by his media adviser, Bayo Onanuga.
Part of the club’s success, he said, was down to consistent investment in youth development and sporting infrastructure.
