Femi Azeez scored twice in a fantastic debut for Nigeria as the Super Eagles beat Zimbabwe to reach the Unity Cup final.
The Millwall attacker put the disappointment of missing out in the Championship play-offs behind him in no time, declaring himself on the international stage with an early opening inside five minutes before scoring a second goal shortly after the hour mark to give Nigeria a comfortable edge.
The victory preserves Nigeria’s record in the Unity Cup intact, with the Super Eagles now going for the crown they have won in all three previous editions. The Valley Stadium, home of Charlton Athletic, will host Saturday’s final between them and either Jamaica or India.
Yesterday’s match was billed as an extension of the rivalry in the CAF World Cup qualification campaign when both sides played out two painful 1-1 draws.
Zimbabwe’s part in ruining Nigeria’s World Cup qualification dreams was the hot topic before kick-off, but the Super Eagles replied strongly on neutral ground to get their own back with an overwhelming victory.
Zimbabwe will now play the third-place play-off on the same day as the final.
