The immediate past Governor of Kano State, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has refuted insinuation that he is secretly working for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The notion had been spreading since he was in the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) Kwankwaso claimed during an interview on Global TV last night.
Earlier, Sanusi Bature, spokesman to Governor Abba Yusuf, had during an interview on Arise News yesterday, said that Senator Kwankwaso is surreptitiously furthering the interest of Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
“There are those who are working with Tinubu openly and directly in the public space and there are those who can work for Tinubu behind the scene,” Bature remarked.
“Whatever Kwankwaso is doing, I believe at the end of the day it will favour Tinubu, because Kwankwaso worked for Tinubu in 2023.
I am in the APC, I have been the opposition spokesperson in Kano and I know what occurred in 2023. “I think Kwankwaso is working behind the scene to contest in 2027 for Tinubu.
The relationship between Kwankwaso and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf went sour after the governor dumped his previous political mentor and joined the APC.
But reacting to the claim, Kwankwaso remarked, “I think only a fool will believe that. We are not employed by anyone. We are only working for NDC.
‘Bola Tinubu has remained until date my senior brother and loyal friend. But that does not mean we shall joint our political philosophies with him. “He’s doing his own and I’m doing mine.”
Kwankwaso claimed President Tinubu does not know the problems bedevilling the country because the people surrounding him are not telling him the truth.
Under the present conditions, the president may not perceive what is normally happening,” he said. And sadly, most of the individuals surrounding him are actually the ones producing the difficulties.
“So, in those circumstances, it is hard to see who is going to advise him or tell him the obvious situation. What they generally say and what they do is to select governors. “I think if you go by the number of governors now, APC is number one.
But Kwankwaso justified his decision to support Peter Obi, stating that the former Labour Party presidential contender is the greatest candidate from the south.
“When we joined the NDC, we called all our leaders from the six geo-political zones and we sat down and looked at the situations. So we decided to join together and work as a family.
In its wisdom, the party zoned the presidential ticket to the south. “We went round the zones and we discovered that Peter Obi is the best candidate. That was our assessment at that point in time.”
