Saleh Mamman, the former Minister of Power, was sentenced to 75 years in prison by the Federal High Court in Abuja for stealing public funds totalling approximately ₦33.8 billion. The court found Mamman guilty on all 12 counts of fraud and money laundering brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The court also ordered the forfeiture of foreign currencies recovered from the convict and four high-value properties in Abuja.
In his ruling, Justice James Omotosho found Mamman guilty of all 12 counts of money laundering and fraud that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had brought against him.
On ten counts, the court sentenced him to seven years in jail; offences four and five received sentences of three and two years, respectively. The sentences would be served consecutively, totalling 75 years in prison, according to Justice Omotosho’s ruling.
On count four, however, he permitted the possibility of a ₦10 million fine.
The court also ordered the convict to forfeit his recovered foreign currency and four valuable properties in Abuja that were linked to him.
