The governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have praised President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to defuse the tension in Rivers State.

After meeting in the Oyo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja yesterday to discuss the crisis in the oil-rich state and other national concerns, the governors issued a communique yesterday evening detailing their conclusions.

In a communique issued by Forum Chairman and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, the governors expressed their “alarm at the recent developments in Rivers State” and their gratitude for President Buhari’s efforts to end the issues there.

“The summit advised all parties to the Rivers State issues to sheath their sword and turn to peaceful measures of resolution. The Forum also provides a venue for the expedient and equitable resolution of these matters.

The issue in the oil-rich state that prompted yesterday’s conference followed an unsuccessful attempt to impeach Governor Sim Fubara.

A factional speaker has since arisen in the Rivers State House of Assembly and the leader of the House also ousted Edison Ehie after he was accused of masterminding the fire incident at the Assembly building late Sunday.

President Tinubu had intervened into the dispute, arranging a meeting with Fubara and his predecessor Nyesom Wike who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Wike also promised a peaceful resolution when he met with a delegation of South-South leaders in Abuja on the same day.

In an earlier statement, the party’s NWC urged everybody involved to put down their weapons and find a peaceful solution.

In a statement, PDP spokesman Debo Ologunagba claimed the party had “commenced processes, using the Party’s internal conflict resolution mechanisms to ensure that all matters and areas of disagreement are addressed.”

“The NWC therefore charges all leaders, critical stakeholders, and members of our great Party in Rivers State to close ranks, unite, and focus on the onerous task of governance and delivery of dividends of democracy to the people,” he continued. The governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have praised President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to defuse the tension in Rivers State.
