Plane overshot runway at Muritala Mohammed Airport Lagos

Last night, a United Nigeria Airlines plane caused panic when it overshot the runway at Lagos’s Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA).

According to Daily Trust, it happened at 7:35 p.m. local time on Runway 18 Left during a storm.

 

Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting Service (ARFFS) officials from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) arrived and reportedly immediately began rescue operations.

 

As of this writing, details of the incident were still sketchy and passenger evacuation was ongoing.

 

The plane was returning from Owerri, Imo State, when it overshot runway 18L by 200 metres, according to an airport source, who added, “no casualty at the moment.”

 

Neither the airline nor the airport authorities had issued a statement as of the time this report was written.
