Otunba Femi Davies, publisher of the MetroNews, was detained by the DSS. Davies is a well-known journalist.

On Monday, he was arrested at the DSS office in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Davies, confident in his standing as a law-abiding citizen and committed journalist, went in for questioning with the DSS on Friday, as was revealed by a friend of his.

Davies’s detention without contact with the outside world, his family, or his friends at the Ogun State DSS Command has surprised many people. The colleague was extremely critical of the DSS, saying that journalism is not a crime and that the DSS’s actions are illegal and an abuse of power. They referred to pertinent provisions of the Constitution of 1999 that guarantee people’s rights in such situations.

The colleague was outraged that the police department would allow itself to be used for intimidation and repression, and she strongly condemned this misuse of power. Davies was previously involved with the Ogun State branch of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council (APC-PCC), where he worked in the Media and Publicity Directorate and backed President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

His career in public relations, publicity, and brand management spans nearly three decades, and he currently serves in several leadership roles within the Society of Digital Newspaper Owners of Nigeria (SDNON).
