Alex Otti, the Governor-elect of Abia state, stated that he will use the model of governance employed by Peter Obi, Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate and state governor from 2006 to 2014, to reduce the cost of governance.
Thursday, Otti stated this in an interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today.
He stated, “My presidential candidate performed exceptionally well in Anambra State because he lowered the cost of governance.”
“We will employ the same type of model in Abia. There is a limit to the number of jobs that can be created in the public sector.”
Otti, who was declared the winner on Wednesday, argued that appointing 12,000 personal assistants and special assistants who “basically don’t have an office” is problematic.
In the meantime, the governor-elect has urged those who have amassed public funds to return them, arguing that it is not worth the time and effort required to pursue looters.
He stated, “I am aware of how much work is required in Abia, and I do not want to be interrupted. I’ve stayed there long enough to know that when you begin an investigation, you become distracted.”
According to him, once the investigation is complete and there is a report that would have indicted numerous individuals, “the process now begins.”
He stated that the proceeding would then proceed to the High Court, then the Court of Appeal, and finally the Supreme Court.
He said, “Return any money you have taken and are still in possession of. However, I will not waste energy pursuing real or imagined criminals, real or imagined looters, but I will not tolerate corruption.
“I will not permit the sharing of our funds. I’d like to see our money put to work for our people.”
