The controversy over the funeral arrangement of the late Gospel musician, Olayemi Bayonle Bolaji, otherwise known as Toluwanisings, has been stepped into by the Oyo State Police Command.
Recall that Toluwanisings reportedly collapsed and died in Ibadan on October 14, 2026.
His death prompted controversy over allegations that numerous hospitals turned him away as efforts were being made to get emergency medical assistance, writes The Nation.
The police had to intervene because of the differing opinions between the family of the dead and other collaborators about the funeral plan, which caused tensions and confrontations in the public space on several platforms.
The Command said, through a statement issued yesterday Tuesday, 3rd of November, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, that it received information on the 28th of October, 2026, about the disagreement and allegations of conspiracy, defamation of character and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
In exercise of his statutory duties under Section 4 of the Police Act, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, directed that all the parties be invited to the Command Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, for an intervention to prevent escalation.
All parties signed a peace undertaking before the Commissioner of Police at the end of the engagement on November 3, it said in a statement.
The parties include the deceased’s wife, Mrs Olayemi Elizabeth Damilola; his father, Mr Muniru Olayemi; his friends and acquaintances include Oyindamola Esther, Babadunni Gbolabo and Comrade Lawal Ademola Rafiu; the deceased’s personal assistant and other representatives.
All parties also promised to keep the peace and to be on their best behaviour, not to commit any act likely to lead to a breach of the peace and to cease public exchanges, interviews and debates likely to fuel the tensions surrounding the singer’s passing.
They also agreed to cease to disseminate information, narratives, allegations and publications related to the subject on social media, print media, radio, blogs and other channels including through proxies, agents and associates.
They further committed not to grant interviews or enable engagements with individuals or media platforms for the further dissemination of such narratives, and direct their proxies to refrain from making, sponsoring, amplifying or distributing publications that are capable of reigniting the controversy.
The Commissioner of Police warned all parties to observe the agreement and accord same to their proxies, agents and connections.
He warned that nobody should take advantage of the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death to stir up bad feeling or spread baseless charges. He warned that anyone whose acts amounted to a crime would be detained and prosecuted.
The Command advised members of the public, bloggers, media practitioners and other interested persons to exercise restraint and desist from amplifying unverified information that could reignite tension, noting that any conduct constituting a criminal offence will be dealt with under the law.
