On Friday, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) started a scheduled maintenance on the 40MVA 132/33kV Transformer (TR1) at its Akwanga Transmission Substation, momentarily disrupting the supply of bulk energy to areas of Nasarawa State.
According to the company, the maintenance exercise began at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026, as engineers performed standard work to increase the transmission network’s dependability.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) would be temporarily unable to take bulk electricity from the transformer for distribution to customers due to the maintenance, according to a statement released by TCN’s management.
Customers of electricity in Akwanga, Nasarawa town, the Water Board, and the nearby areas that the substation serves will be impacted by the planned outage.
According to TCN, the maintenance is a component of continuous initiatives to fortify the nation’s grid and enhance the dependability and quality of bulk power supply to electrical distribution firms.
The exercise is intended to improve the transformer’s operational efficiency and lower the possibility of equipment failure that could result in unscheduled outages, according to the company.
The Transmission Company expressed regret for any inconvenience that households and businesses in the impacted areas would experience from the brief power outage and promised that regular electricity supply will resume as soon as the work was finished.
It emphasised that regular maintenance is still essential to maintaining a stable and dependable transmission infrastructure throughout the nation, appealing for the cooperation and understanding of power consumers.
