A 26-year-old man, Daniel, has allegedly killed his 17-year-old brother in the rural community of Odigbo in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
According to a source, the event happened on Tuesday and the culprit was apprehended and transferred to the state police command, The PUNCH says.
The source said the suspect and the dead were brothers and their father is a cop in the community.
It was learned that the reason the suspect performed the evil deed against his blood brother was yet unknown but certain inhabitants of the village voiced suspicion of ritual in the incident.
Another report said the suspect beheaded the deceased after killing him and put the head inside a bag near a river in the community.
The youngsters of the community were claimed to have beaten the culprit into a vegetative state after dragging him to the center of the town angry by the occurrence. He reportedly died at the hospital on Wednesday morning.
He was thrashed and brought to the town after being caught with the head, the person added. He was later rescued and sent to hospital where he eventually died this morning (Wednesday).”
Somebody was trying to cross the river, the Origbara river, to the other section of the community,” Roland Akinkunmi, a resident of the community, said. He watched the guy put his brother’s severed head into a bag and raised the alarm.
“I was around the palace, and I heard people shouting from the Origbara axis,” he recalled. When I witnessed what was occurring, Daniel was clutching a human head. I was confused and didn’t understand it was his brother’s head at first.
He is a respected policeman here and father to Daniel and Emmanuel, children of the same parents. We are all flabbergasted. How could anyone do this to their own kin? They are not of this community. We are still in disbelief as to what might have possessed him to have had the thought of killing and beheading his own young brother.
Some of their neighbours had said that the two had had the ordinary disagreement of brothers and sisters before. But we believe that it will be more than that. “In this town, if anyone spills human blood for a money ritual or under any circumstances, the person will be exposed immediately.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the event, saying that the situation had been reported and that the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Adebowale Lawal, had ordered quick inquiry.
The matter has been ordered to be sent to SCID (State Criminal Investigation Department) for further and discreet investigation. Ayanlade said, “The Ondo State Police Command is assuring the good people of Ondo State that no stone will be left unturned in the case.
