The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the current Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by two weeks.
The nationwide CVR exercise that started August 18, 2025 was initially slated to end July 10, 2026, Channels TV reported.
According to a statement issued yesterday by the National Commissioner & Chair, Information and Voter Education, INEC, Mohammed Haruna, it resolved to extend the exercise after the comments obtained from its State Offices, political parties, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.
The National Commissioner said the self-service will allow eligible persons to commence and complete their voter registration, including biometric capture, on their devices without having to visit an INEC office.
“The system has been designed to ensure credibility and accuracy of the National Register of Voters through rigorous identity verification, biometric validation and backend integrity checks,” he said.
“The Commission has therefore extended the exercise to Friday, 24th July 2026 to give eligible citizens who are yet to register additional opportunity.
The extension underlines the Commission’s commitment to ensuring all qualified Nigerians are given a fair and reasonable opportunity to be included in the Register of Voters ahead of next election activities. GeographicReference
“In keeping with its mandate for innovation, accessibility and better service delivery, the Commission is pleased to announce the introduction of a self-service registration option (online) for eligible first-time voters.
“The new service will be available from Wednesday, 8th July 2026 on the Commission’s dedicated CVR portal – cvr.inecnigeria.org where the step-by-step guide is also available.”
The Commission said it remained dedicated to a credible, inclusive and accessible voter registration procedure and increasing the use of technology to improve the experience of individuals in the election process.
He advised all eligible Nigerians who have not registered to use this extended window and investigate the new voter registration technology option Location Reference
