Osasere Okundaye, a 16-year-old Nigerian, has broken a record as the youngest individual in the country to qualify as a chartered accountant through the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
The Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, praised the milestone, describing the achievement as a testament to the power of hard work, discipline and resilience.
The minister, in a statement on Monday, described Okundaye as “a shining example of the limitless potential of Nigerian youth,” and urged young Nigerians not to lose focus on their goals and believe in their abilities to achieve greatness.
Olawande also paid tribute to her parents, teachers and mentors, saying their advice, support and sacrifices were vital to her achievement.
He re-affirmed the commitment of the Federal Ministry of Youth Development to provide opportunities that enable young Nigerians to explore and utilise their potential.
Okundaye’s achievement broke the previous national record set in 2022 by Jonathan Adewale, who was Nigeria’s youngest chartered accountant at 17.
ICAN is one of the most difficult professional qualifications in Nigeria and it usually takes several years of hard work and passing various exams before a candidate can qualify.
Okundaye’s victory at the age of 16 has consequently generated so much attention as many have described it as an exceptional feat and an encouragement to young Nigerians who aspire to excel in their chosen careers.
