The Ogun State Police Command has started a full investigation into the killing of a retired staff of Ogun State Television (OGTV), Mrs Kitan Oyesiku, popularly known as ‘Aunty Kitan’ and her security guard at her residence in Agodo community along the Abeokuta–Siun–Sagamu Motorway.
Daily Independent states that the victims were said to have been slaughtered by unidentified shooters in the early hours of yesterday, sending shock waves across the media community and the citizens of the state.
It was learnt from sources in the community that the sickening discovery was discovered after members of Mrs Oyesiku’s church raised the alarm after she did not attend a church service and could not be reached.
Members of the church went to her home to check on her and found evidence of tragedy, according to a resident who asked not to be identified.
We heard that some church members went to check on Mrs Oyesiku after they did not see her in church. When they got to her house they found that the security guy had been slain. “They later discovered the body of Mrs Oyesiku inside the house and immediately raised the alarm,” the source added.
The Ogun State Police Command spokesman, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the event, saying the matter was reported at the Owode-Egba Police Division on Sunday by a resident of Iyana Agodo Village, who witnessed strange activity at the deceased’s property.
Babaseyi said detectives were quickly rushed to the scene where preliminary enquiries indicated evidence of forced entry and traces of disturbance within the premises.
During a thorough search of the premises, the corpse of the security guard was recovered within the security post while the body of Mrs Oyesiku was later discovered inside her flat. “The victim’s vehicle was also found missing from the premises,” he added.
The remains of the dead have since been deposited at the mortuary of the State Hospital, Ijaiye, Abeokuta as detectives are working to understand the facts surrounding the incident.
CP Bode Ojajuni, Ogun State Commissioner of Police, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the tragedy, asking investigators to trace and arrest those behind the deaths.
“The police have stepped up surveillance and intelligence-led operations in all relevant locations in a bid to identify and arrest the perpetrators,” the police said.
The command commiserates with the family of the deceased, the management and staff of OGTV, the media community and all those affected by the unfortunate loss.
It further promised locals that every effort will be made to see that justice is done.
Mrs Oyesiku, who had spent many years in the service of Ogun State Television before retirement, was generally recognised in broadcasting circles.
