To combat the increasing insecurity and criminal activities in Ikorodu and its environs, the Lagos State Police Command has set up a special tactical security outfit, the “Command Sweepers Squad”.
The program was reportedly launched by the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, following the rising concerns and public uproar about criminal activities in several portions of the Ikorodu axis, according to The PUNCH.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Abimbola Adebisi, in a statement today, said the squad was a temporary intervention force to restore public confidence and also to enhance security inside the region.
The statement said the squad comprised officers from different tactical formations including the Rapid Response Squad, Eko Strike Force, Police Mobile Force units and personnel from sister security agencies and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force.
“The team has been posted to Ijede to enable quick posting and efficient response operations in Ikorodu and its environs.
The police command also provided the squad with patrol cars and three Armoured Personnel Carriers given by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund to improve their operational effectiveness.
“The Squad has been strategically deployed to identify black spots and criminal hideouts to carry out intelligence-led operations, raids, stop-and-search duties and confidence building patrols aimed at flushing out criminal elements,” the statement read.
The Command informed residents that the activities would be conducted professionally and within the ambit of the rule of law and called on members of the public to assist security agencies with timely and credible information.
