A significantly pregnant woman, Ruth Nen Maurice, has died in a deadly accident involving a reckless motorist, who was allegedly trying to elude authorities of the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
Eyewitnesses said that the tragic incident that occurred on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, happened in the city centre as the driver tried to maneuver his escape from the VIO operatives and knocked down the woman who was said to be due for delivery in a few weeks. The victim was said to have been standing by the roadside, waiting for a vehicle to convey her to a hospital for an antenatal check-up.
