There are further details about the attack on a branch of The Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in the Arikon hamlet of Kaduna State’s Kachia Local Government Area.
Reports from Daily Trust said that bandits attacked the church during Easter service, killing five people and taking 29 worshippers hostage.
Last night, a security source told our reporter over the phone that the bandits came into the town on more than 20 motorcycles and encircled the church while service was still going on.
He said that when some of the bandits got off the motorcycle, they started shooting in different directions, killing five persons who tried to get away.
He said that other people who were at a nearby Catholic Church ran away when they heard gunfire.
“The bandits actually attacked the ECWA church first. “And while they were shooting, people in the Catholic Church started to run out, but the bandits killed one of them,” he claimed.
He named the people that died at ECWA Church as Tanko Haruna, Waziri Agunu, Aminu Soba, Joseph Audu, and Adamu Jatau. He also said that they were slain while trying to get out.
He also named some of the believers who had been taken hostage as
Garba Tanko, his wife Lami Garba, one of their daughters, Rachel Garba, and a grandchild, Moses Yakubu, all live with him.
There are also Rahab Usman and his daughter Victoria Rahab. The kidnappers took Sunday Ayuba, Dantani Alhaji, his wife Mrs. Mary Dantani, and their three daughters, who were all named Helen, Rejoice, and Ahmadu.
The security source, on the other hand, said that the Kaduna State Police Commissioner, CP Rabiu Mohammed, and the Sector 4 Commander of the Nigerian Army, Col. IR ADOM, led a convoy of more than 30 cars to the location to see what was going on.
Our reporter found out that no one is living in the whole community.
After the raid, some locals are said to have run away to the nearby towns of Katari, Jere, and Kachia.
As of the time this article was written, DSP Hassan Mansur, the spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command, had not said anything regarding the incident.
