A scientific study has shown that women are more attracted to males with bigger penises, which goes against the long-held idea that size doesn’t matter.
The study, which was published in the peer-reviewed journal PLOS Biology, looked at how things like height, body shape, and genital size affect sexual desire and perception.
Dr. Upama Aich from the University of Western Australia led the study. She added that the results confirmed past data that penis size affects how women see men as beautiful.
Aich remarked, “We confirmed what we had already found: women like a bigger penis.”
The scientists wanted to know why the human penis is bigger than that of other great apes, even though its main job is to reproduce.
To look into this, they did an experiment with more than 600 men and 200 women.
People were shown computer-generated male figures that had different heights, body shapes, and penis sizes. Women were asked to judge how sexually beautiful the figures were, and men were asked to rate how dangerous the figures were, both physically and sexually.
The data showed a strong trend.
Women tended to find men who were taller, had a V-shaped upper body, and a bigger penis size more attractive. But the study also found that after a certain point, getting bigger or taller didn’t make people more beautiful.
For male participants, penis size had a distinct significance.
The study indicated that males saw a bigger penis as an indication of a stronger opponent, both in terms of physical strength and sexual competition.
Researchers stated this means that penis size may have changed for two main causes.
First, to get the attention of possible partners. Second, to show other men that they are strong and competitive, like antlers in deer or manes in lions.
The study suggests that sexual preference seems to be more important.
It discovered that penis size made people more appealing “four to seven times more” than it made them look like they could fight.
Michael D. Jennions, a Professor Emeritus of Evolutionary Biology at the Australian National University and co-author, said that the results indicate to a bigger explanation for why people look the way they do.
He remarked, “While the human penis’s main job is to transfer sperm, our results suggest that its unusually large size evolved as a sexual ornament to attract females instead of just as a badge of status to scare males, though it does both.”
The researchers also pointed out that early humans didn’t wear clothes, so their physical qualities would have been exposed and might have affected both attraction and competitiveness.
The study did, however, admit that it had several flaws.
It did not take into account other things that can affect attractiveness in real life, like personality, face features, or emotional connection.
The writers also said that what is considered masculine and handsome changes from culture to culture and throughout time.
The study indicates that attraction is not static; rather, it is influenced by a combination of biological signals, social context, and individual perception.
