The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the release of Hon. Justice Faruk Hassan Bunza, a judge of the Kebbi State High Court, who was abducted from his residence in the Bunza Local Government Area on July 26, 2026.
The police, in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said the judge was released earlier on August 3, 2026. His release was confirmed by his family and the Kebbi State Ministry of Justice.
The police said the kidnapers had wanted a ransom during the duration of captivity but the Command held on to its age long tradition of not paying ransom.
With Justice Bunza now safely back in the arms of his family, the security authorities are focusing on tracking and arresting the perpetrators of the abduction. Police said investigations have been increased and investigators are working with other security authorities to track down the criminals and guarantee they face justice.
The Command has called on members of the public to assist the ongoing investigation by offering any credible information that can lead to the arrest of the culprits. It promised residents that all information received would be treated in complete confidence, to safeguard informants.
Police authorities also commended residents, community leaders and partner security agencies for their assistance during the rescue operations, adding that the support of the public was vital during the judge’s imprisonment.
The Command restated its commitment to the protection of lives and property in Kebbi State, assuring citizens of its persistent fight against abduction and other violent crimes.
The police appealed to members of the public with helpful information regarding the case or any other criminal activities to report to the Kebbi State Police Command through its emergency control room lines or nearest police station.
The release of Justice Bunza offers some respite to the state’s judiciary and legal community, even as authorities persist in attempts to destroy the criminal network behind his abduction and beef up security across the state.
