Members of the Nigerian Army have broken into a well-known drug den in Umuahia and arrested three people who are thought to be dealers who sell and give narcotics to customers.
The Nation said that the 145 Battalion (Rear) troops carried out the operation along New Road in the capital of Abia State.
The raid was done with the help of Operation Crush Sector 1 after getting reliable information that illegal drug activities were happening at the site.
Based on the information, security quickly went to the area to stop the illegal operation and arrest individuals involved.
Three men who were apprehended at the scene of the operation were Henrick Sunday, 42; Nnadozie Jacob, 23; and Darlington Mba, 23.
Lt. Mazinho Attah, the Army’s public relations officer, confirmed the raid and arrest. He stated that a search of the drug bunk’s premises found substances that were thought to be cannabis sativa, methamphetamine, and other illegal drugs that were not recognized.
“Other things found during the investigation included several cell phones, a knife, and cash.
“The quick and well-planned raid is part of the continuous intelligence-based operations to stop the spread of illegal substances and break up criminal networks that are functioning in communities in the Southeast.
There is a lot of evidence that drug misuse and trafficking are linked to other crimes, thus these kinds of interventions are necessary to improve security and public safety.
After the operation was over, the suspects and the discovered items were turned over to the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Umuahia Command for more investigation and any legal action that was needed.
The 14 Brigade Nigerian Army said it will keep working with the right security and law enforcement organizations to fight drug-related crimes and other threats to peace in the area.
“Residents are asked to keep helping with security efforts by giving timely and accurate information that could help stop crime in their neighborhoods.”
