The Department of State Services (DSS) has said that five security officers have been arrested and charged with taking bribes to let former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai return to Nigeria from Egypt on February 12.
The Daily Independent said that the DSS has said that the five officials have now confessed and been turned over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for prosecution.
The statement said:
Five policemen have been arrested after a combined investigation by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), the Federal Ministry of Aviation, and the Department of State Services (DSS).
Here they are:
i. Ayuba YAKUBU (ASP) is a police officer.
ii. Murtala Inuwa – DSS
iii. Najeeb Murtala (ASI) – NIS
iv. Musa ADAMU – Aviation
Safety (AVSEC).
v. Salihu VICTOR – AVSEC.
They have all admitted to taking bribes to help people get into Restricted Areas without permission and to stop legal security operations in a way that has never happened before.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is in charge of prosecuting them.
People from NIS and NCS who didn’t commit a crime, like taking a bribe, but used their uniforms to let people in without permission would face administrative consequences.
