One day after an interview in which the 79-year-old defended his suitability for office amid concerns about his well-being was published, US President Donald Trump today praised his “perfect health” and cognitive abilities.
Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, “The White House Doctors have just reported that I am in ‘PERFECT HEALTH’ and that I ‘ACED’ (meaning, was correct on 100% of the questions asked!) on my Cognitive Examination for the third consecutive time, something which no other President, or previous Vice President was willing to take.”
Trump, who at 79 is the oldest person to become president of the United States, was interviewed by the Wall Street Journal yesterday. In the interview, Trump denied dozing off during televised meetings and attributed his hand’s severe bruising to aspirin.
Additionally, Trump retracted his earlier claim that he had an MRI in October, claiming that a speedier CT scan was performed instead.
Whether through his regular encounters with journalists, his frequent posts on social media, or AI memes that portray him as a superhero, Trump has built much of his political image around showing vitality.
But concerns have grown over the first year of his second term in office.
His legs appear swollen, and his right hand has recurring bruises that are frequently covered with thick makeup and occasionally a bandage.
Trump has occasionally made it evident that he has trouble keeping his eyes open, such as when he met with health officials in the Oval Office in November.
Trump claimed to the Journal that he was simply unwinding rather than sleeping.
“I’ll simply shut down. I find that so soothing,” he remarked. “Sometimes they’ll take a picture of me blinking, blinking, and they’ll catch me with the blink.”
Trump also stated in his tweet today that a “strong, meaningful, and proven” cognitive test ought to be a prerequisite for any candidate running for president or vice president.
“‘STUPID’ OR INCOMPETENT PEOPLE’ CAN’ RUN OUR GREAT COUNTRY!” he wrote.
Concerns regarding the Democrat’s age and seeming deterioration were highlighted by his predecessor Joe Biden, the oldest president in US history, who withdrew from the 2024 election following a dismal debate performance.
