Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, conferred with Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Tuggar, on Wednesday to deliberate on bilateral ties and current collaboration between the two nations.
This was included in a statement sent by the Chinese Embassy in Abuja.
Dunhai stated, “Due to the collaborative efforts of both parties, the China-Nigeria comprehensive strategic partnership has accelerated.”
He emphasized China’s dedication to international collaboration, citing the nation’s 15th Five-Year Plan, and remarked that “China and Nigeria have consistently comprehended and endorsed one another regarding matters of mutual core interests.”
The envoy stated, “China also endorses Nigeria’s initiatives to combat terrorism.”
“China is prepared to collaborate with Nigeria to promptly establish zero-tariff treatment for Nigerian exports and to adequately prepare for the events commemorating the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations and the 2026 China-Africa Year of Cultural Exchanges.”
The ambassador asserted that these efforts “will strengthen strategic mutual trust between the two nations and enhance mutually advantageous cooperation.”
The statement additionally said that Tuggar characterized China as “Nigeria’s comprehensive strategic partner” and affirmed the nation’s appreciation for the partnership.
He expressed gratitude to China for its substantial support of Nigeria’s economic and social advancement.
Tuggar reiterated Nigeria’s dedication to the one-China concept and expressed a desire to enhance collaboration in manufacturing, commerce, and investment to fortify bilateral relations.
Nigeria and China formalized diplomatic ties in 1971, and throughout the years, their collaboration has progressively broadened to encompass trade, infrastructure, investment, cultural exchange, and development-focused initiatives.
In recent years, commerce between the two nations has expanded. In 2023, bilateral trade allegedly attained over $22.6 billion, ranking among the largest in Africa.
Chinese companies have engaged in significant infrastructure initiatives in Nigeria, encompassing ports, railways, and energy sectors.
