Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has kept attacking Nigeria, calling the most populous black nation on earth “a disgrace.”
Trump, who changed Nigeria’s status to “Country of Particular Concern” two weeks ago, called the Nigerian government inefficient in his most recent outburst.
He said this on Fox News Radio’s “The Brian Kilmeade Show.”
“I think Nigeria is a shame.” The whole thing is shameful. They are killing thousands of people. There is genocide going on. And it makes me very upset. And we give Nigeria a lot of money in the form of subsidies, which we will eventually stop doing.
“The government hasn’t done anything. They don’t work very well. They can slaughter Christians whenever they want. And you know, no one even talked about it until I became involved two weeks ago.
Sunday Trust said that Trump’s criticism comes at a time when President Bola Tinubu sent a powerful group of people to America to talk about what his government is doing to deal with pervasive insecurity.
Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, is in charge of the delegation that has visited with high-ranking officials in Trump’s government, such as Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.
Ribadu’s group also met with Congressman Riley Moore, who Trump told to look into the issue in Nigeria and report back to him.
Since Trump attacked Nigeria, crime has been on the rise.
George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, said that Trump’s actions and the rise in attacks may be related, but it’s also possible that they are just a coincidence.
In an ambush in Borno State last week, Boko Haram killed a Brigadier-General and some soldiers.
On Monday, gunmen took 25 girls from the Government Girls Secondary School in Maga, Kebbi State. They killed the school’s Vice-Principal, Hassan Makuku, and shot Ali Shehu, a security guard.
Gunmen burst into a church in Eruku town in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State two days after the Kebbi tragedy. They killed one person and took worshippers hostage.
Gunmen stormed St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Agwarra LGA of Niger State, on Friday. They took more than 300 kids and 12 staff members.
